Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has apologised to his teammates and fans after his card in the team’s loss to Flamengo at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

Jackson received a red card less than two minutes after coming on as second half substitute for stamping on a Flamengo player.

In a post-match reaction, Jackson offered an apology  citing that he let the team and fans down when they needed him to help.

He went to add that his tackle wasn’t malicious as he aimed for the ball instead of the player’s shin.

Nicolas Jackson

” I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card and honestly, I’m so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don’t fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn’t intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry”.

Chelsea suffered a 3-1 loss to the Brazilian side despite going ahead in the 13th minute of the match.

Pedro Neto gave the Conference League champions the lead from a brilliant individual effort to register his second goal of the tournament.

However, Bruno Henrique, former Juventus and Manchester City defender Danilo and substitute Wallace Yan turned the tie around.

Consequently, Flamengo have qualified for the second round while Chelsea need at least a draw against Esperance to book their spot in round of 16.
