Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen has expressed his eagerness to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria back to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the three-time African champions missed out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
Osimhen vows to help the team secure qualification for the tournament as they take on the Panthers of Gabon in the semi-finals of the African playoffs next month.
Victor Osimhen played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles clinch the playoff ticket with an impressive hat-trick in the Super Eagles’ dominant 4-0 win over Benin on October 14 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
The 27-year-old striker scored six goals and provided one assist en route to the playoffs and has vowed to replicate his previous feats to help Nigeria secure qualification.
Osimhen shared his thoughts while also expressing his desire to maintain goal-scoring for Galatasaray ahead of the face-off against Trabzonspor and Ajax in the Champions League.
In quotes relayed by Sporx, Osimhen stated: “We have many goals as a club. We need to work hard and fight for these goals.
“I want to be in the World Cup with my country. I am giving my everything there too. My focus is here now.
“Next month is the World Cup playoffs. I will help my teammates with my goals, assists, and everything. Now we will rest this week, and we will play an important match.”
Nigeria will take on the Panthers of Gabon on November 13 in Morocco for a place in the final of the African playoffs, where it will take on either Cameroon or DR Congo.
