‘It is my fault’ – Bruno Fernandes accepts blame for Ten Hag sack

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has spoken out about Erik ten Hag’s departure.

Fernandes has revealed he feels responsible for the Dutch manager’s sacking.

Ten Hag was let go after United’s 2-1 loss at West Ham, a result that made it just 4 wins from 14 matches to start the season.

As captain, Fernandes admits he has felt guilty ever since the news broke.

“I always gave 100% and Erik ten Hag knows that,” Fernandes said after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

“After hearing the news, I spoke to him and apologized. I was disappointed he had gone, and I tried to help him.”

Fernandes, who scored his first league goal of the season in the draw, explained:

“I wasn’t scoring goals. We weren’t scoring goals, and I feel responsible.”

The Portugal midfielder also found the net in the 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester City, and after a barren start to the season, he has now scored three goals in his last two games.

The sense of responsibility is understandable and even commendable.

However, the most important thing now is to lift United further up the Premier League table.

Sporting CP boss, Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as United’s new permanent boss, and the 39-year-old has a huge job on his hands, to rescue the Red Devils’ season.
