It’s a bit too early” – Troost-Ekong quells talks on retirement from the Super Eagles

William Troost-Ekong has reponded to talks of him planning to retire from the national team after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Super Eagles captain says he gets asked a lot about his retirement from the team but feels it’s a little bit early to do so.

“It is a question I get from Nigerians but i think it’s a bit too early”

Troost-Ekong made his debut for the Super Eagles in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chadin 2015 where he featured for 90 minutes.

The 31-year-old defender has been in the national team since then gas represented the country at the FIFA World Cup three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

William Troost-Ekong was part of Samson Sia Sia’s “Dream Team” that won Bronze at the football event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The defender was voted the Most Valuable Player at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire where scored 3 goals including one in the final.

William Troost-Ekong is expected to earn his 75th cap tonight when the Super Eagles play Rwanda in the final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series.

The match will take place at the magnificent Goodwill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Kick-off is 5 p.m local time.
