Former Liverpool striker, Luis Suárez has expressed his disappointment at never having the chance to play alongside Fernando Torres at Anfield, calling it “a shame” that their paths never crossed in the famous red shirt.
Suárez, who joined Liverpool from Ajax in January 2011, was signed as a direct replacement for Torres after the Spaniard completed a then-British record £50 million move to Chelsea on the same transfer deadline day.
“”When I was leaving Ajax, I had offers from Liverpool and Tottenham on the table… I didn’t think about it and I chose Liverpool”, he stated.
“I was a fan of Gerrard and Fernando Torres. It’s a shame I couldn’t play with Torres, it would have been a dream… I always played on the PlayStation using Fernando Torres.”
While Suárez went on to establish himself as a club legend, forming a lethal strike partnership with Daniel Sturridge and thrilling fans with his incredible goal-scoring ability, he remains wistful about the possibility of linking up with Torres.
Torres was adored at Anfield for his clinical finishing and ability to torment Premier League defenders. From 2007 to 2011, he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for Liverpool, forging a strong connection with captain Steven Gerrard.
Meanwhile, Suárez quickly won over the Kop with his tenacity, skill, and goal-scoring prowess, ultimately netting 82 goals in 133 games before leaving for Barcelona in 2014.
