Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, James Maddison has shared a heartfelt and candid message following his successful surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sustained during a pre-season match.
The 28-year-old’s injury is expected to sideline him for the majority of the 2025–26 season.
Posting from a hospital bed alongside his children, Maddison described the moment as the “lowest low I’ve ever had,” expressing heartbreak over the timing of the injury.
He lamented missing key upcoming events, including the Super Cup, Premier League campaign, Champions League fixtures, and a World Cup year for England—calling the situation “very very cruel”.
Despite the emotional toll, Maddison confirmed that the ACL reconstruction surgery was successful. He conveyed deep gratitude to his close friends, family, and even supporters who reached out on social media, saying their messages “mean absolutely everything” to him.
In an empowering twist, he also addressed his critics, stating their doubt and mockery fuel him more than ever. “You truly motivate me to levels I didn’t know I had inside of me… See you all on the other side,” he concluded.
Tottenham manager, Thomas Frank described Maddison’s absence as both “disappointing” and “devastating,” acknowledging the creative void the team will face without their star No. 10.
