Pep Guardiola will have a new assistant on the Manchester City bench next season, with former Ivorian international Kolo Touré officially appointed as the club’s first-team assistant coach.

The Premier League champions confirmed the 43-year-old’s appointment as part of a reshuffle within Guardiola’s backroom staff ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Touré, a seasoned figure in English football, brings a wealth of experience both as a player and coach. He previously had spells on the coaching staff at Celtic and Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers and also managed Wigan Athletic in the Championship.

Known for his leadership qualities and strong defensive acumen, Touré is expected to play a key role in day-to-day training and tactical preparations under Guardiola.

During his playing days, Touré represented Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and earning over 100 caps for Ivory Coast. His familiarity with City, where he played from 2009 to 2013, adds an extra layer of significance to his return in a coaching capacity.
