Atlético Madrid came from behind to beat Alavés 2-1. Grimaldo put them ahead in the 33rd minute after a one-two with Ademola Lookman, who started the match. Lucas Boyé equalised from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, and Alavés had a man sent off in the second half. Romero then scored the winner in the 85th minute from Álex Baena’s cross, and Atlético are second on 19 points.
Rayo Vallecano against Athletic Club never finished. The referee suspended the match after fewer than 30 minutes because home fans threw paper planes onto the pitch. Authorities have not yet said what sanctions Rayo will face.
BBarcelona remain at the top of the La Liga table with 25 points from nine matches, Atletico Madrid are behind with 19 points, while Real Madrid are third with 18 points.
