Leicester City have been officially relegated to League One, completing a dramatic fall from the heights of English football to the third tier in just a few years.
The confirmation came following a 2–2 draw with Hull City, a result that left Leicester mathematically unable to escape the drop zone in the Championship. The outcome sealed a second consecutive relegation for the former Premier League champions.
The club wrote on their official Facebook handle
“Following confirmation of Leicester City’s relegation to League One, Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has issued the following statement:To our fans. Relegation to League One is now confirmed. As Chairman, that responsibility sits with me. There are no excuses”
Leicester’s relegation signals a stunning decline for a club that famously won the Premier League title in 2016 against all odds. A decade on, they now find themselves preparing for life in EFL League One.
The club’s struggles this season have been consistent. Poor form, including a prolonged run of games without victory, left them battling at the wrong end of the table for most of the campaign. Their situation was worsened by a points deduction linked to financial rule breaches, which further dented their survival hopes.
Off the pitch, recruitment decisions and instability within the squad have also been cited as contributing factors. The team failed to find consistency, and defensive lapses proved costly in key matches throughout the season.
Leicester will look forward to climbing through the ranks again, and hopefully, find themselves in the Premier League.
