Lionel Messi has been named as the Most Valuable Player for the 2024 Major League Soccer season.
Messi had a fantastic individual season for Inter Miami as he led them to the playoffs for the second time.
The eight-time Ballon D’or winner was outstanding among other players in the league with 21 goals and 18 assists in 22 games.
Messi’s kit sponsor Adidas shared his picture alongside that of his family as he received the award on their Instagram page
However, despite finishing top of the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami crashed out in the second round of the playoffs.
Inter Miami lost 5-3 on aggregate to Atlanta United. Messi’s goal in the second leg wasn’t enough as Inter Miami finished the season on a disappointing note.
Lionel Messi was recently nominated as one of the best forwards in the 2024 FIFPro Men’s World 11 for his outstanding performance in the year under review.
He was also nominated in the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards as Player of the Year.
