Liverpool are set to compete with Chelsea for Eintracht Frankfurt’s talented striker Hugo Ekitike, who could be allowed to leave for a fee of around £80 million.
Discussions have already begun, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot reportedly a big fan of the 22-year-old Frenchman. As the reigning Premier League champions, The Reds are acting swiftly to bolster their squad this summer.
They are also closing in on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and are in talks for a potential £100 million-plus move for his teammate Florian Wirtz.
Meanwhile, Sky Germany reports that Chelsea are also in the race for Ekitike, who has flourished since leaving PSG, achieving a career-best season by surpassing 20 goals for the first time.
While no formal offers have been made, Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, has indicated the club is open to letting players leave if they feel ready for a bigger stage.
“We will allow players to leave if they’ve outgrown the environment,” Krösche said, leaving the door ajar for Ekitike’s potential exit from Deutsche Bank Park.
The Blues seem to have moved on from their interest in Viktor Osimhen, as they favour a younger striker with greater resale value.
