It was a lacklustre day in the Spanish capital as both Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid faced setbacks in their La Liga campaigns, each securing only a draw in their respective matches.
Real Madrid’s winless streak in the league extended to three matches following a 1-1 draw against Osasuna at El Sadar Stadium. The visitors took an early lead in the 15th minute when Kylian Mbappé converted a pass from Federico Valverde.
However, the match took a turn in the 39th minute when Jude Bellingham received a red card for dissent, leaving Madrid with ten men. Osasuna capitalized on the numerical advantage, equalizing in the 58th minute through an Ante Budimir penalty after Eduardo Camavinga’s foul in the box.
Despite efforts from Vinícius Jr. and Mbappé, Real Madrid couldn’t regain the lead as they had to settle for a point.
Atlético Madrid missed the chance to overtake their city rivals at the top of the table, drawing 1-1 with Celta Vigo at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The match started poorly for Atlético, as midfielder Pablo Barrios was shown a red card in the 5th minute following a VAR review.
Despite being a man down, Atlético managed to hold off Celta until the 68th minute, when Iago Aspas converted a penalty after a foul by Robin Le Normand.
The home side responded in the 81st minute, with Alexander Sørloth netting the equalizer after a setup by José Giménez. The draw keeps Atlético in second place, one point behind Real Madrid.
These results leave the La Liga title race finely poised, with both Madrid clubs eager to return to winning ways in the upcoming fixtures.
