Manchester City reaffirmed their status as Premier League heavyweights with a resounding 6-0 demolition of Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
City wasted no time asserting their dominance. Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a deft finish following a precise assist from Kevin De Bruyne.
Foden turned creator as he fed Mateo Kovacic who fired home from the edge of the box in the 30th minute. The visitors were relentless, and Foden scored again to make it 3-0 in the 42nd minute, sweeping home a De Bruyne cross.
The second half began much like the first, with City dictating the tempo and pinning Ipswich deep in their own half. Jeremy Doku added to Ipswich’s misery in the 49th minute, as he saw his effort deflected past the keeper and into the far corner.
Haaland then got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute after Doku capitalized on Jack Clarke’s misplaced pass to tee him up for City’s fifth goal.
Substitute, James McAtee also got in on the act, adding the finishing touch with a header from Kovacic’s cross in the 69th minute.
The victory lifted Manchester City back into the Premier League’s top four, level on 38 points with Newcastle United but ahead on goal difference. However, they remain 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who continue their remarkable campaign.
For Ipswich Town, the defeat leaves them languishing in 18th place with 16 points, deep in the relegation zone. They face a tough road ahead as they battle to secure their top-flight status.
