Inter Miami boss Javier Mascherano, has poured cold water on rumors linking the club to Brazilian superstar Neymar.
Mascherano cited the MLS salary cap as the main obstacle to signing the Saudi Al Hilal player.
Recent speculation suggested that Neymar might join Inter Miami to reunite with his former Barcelona teammates, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
However, Mascherano dismissed the idea, saying:
“Of course, Neymar is a great player, and every team in the world wants to sign him, but at present, the American League’s salary rules make it impossible to think about including him.”
Neymar had previously expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of playing with Messi and Suarez again, stating:
“Of course, playing again with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez would be incredible. They are my friends, and we always talk to each other.
“Some [people] say I will [join Inter Miami], but I am happy at Al Hilal currently, but football is full of surprises.”
The three stars made history as the world’s most feared trio when they led Barcelona to multiple trophies in their three seasons together.
Neymar eventually departed to join PSG for a world record fee in 2017.
