Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has revealed what his ideal midfielder would look like, combining the best qualities of some of football’s greatest players.
In a recent interview, the former Chelsea star was asked to create his “perfect midfielder” by picking specific attributes from players he admired throughout his career.
Mikel chose Paul Scholes for passing, describing the Manchester United legend as a player who could dictate any game with precision and vision.
For shooting, he selected Frank Lampard, his former Chelsea teammate, known for his incredible goal-scoring ability from midfield.

When it came to dribbling, Mikel went for David Silva, praising the Spaniard’s quick feet and ability to find space in tight areas. For speed, he picked N’Golo Kante, another of his Chelsea teammates, admired for his tireless running and recovery pace.
For strength, the Nigerian named Yaya Toure, calling the Ivorian a dominant force capable of overpowering any opponent. And for tackling, he completed his dream midfielder with Steven Gerrard, citing the Liverpool legend’s aggression, timing, and leadership.

Reflecting on his picks, Mikel said the blend of these attributes would produce the ultimate all-round midfielder, combining creativity, intelligence, power, and determination.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who enjoyed a decorated career with Chelsea and Nigeria, said his choices reflect his admiration for the players who defined an era of elite midfield football.
