In a dramatic and unforgettable evening at Riyadh’s King Saud University Stadium, AC Milan edged out Inter Milan with a stunning 3-2 victory to claim the 2024 Supercoppa Italiana.
The match began with Inter Milan asserting control early on. Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a clinical finish after a well-crafted team move.
Inter doubled their lead in the 27th minute through Mehdi Taremi, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The 2-0 lead appeared to place Inter in a commanding position, with their midfield trio of Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Nicolò Barella, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan dictating the game’s tempo. Milan struggled to find their rhythm, and the first half ended with Inter looking the likely victors.
The second half, however, told a completely different story. Theo Hernández sparked the comeback in the 55th minute with a sublime free-kick from 25 yards, curling the ball into the top corner to halve the deficit.
The goal energized the Rossoneri, and just ten minutes later, Christian Pulisic brought Milan level. The American winger showed great composure, finishing off a counterattack with a low, driven shot that left Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer rooted to the spot.
With the match seemingly headed for extra time, Milan found a late winner in the dying moments. Tammy Abraham, meeting a precise cross from Rafael Leão, Abraham powered a header into the net, sparking wild celebrations among the Milan fans.
Inter desperately pushed for an equalizer in the final moments, but Maignan made a crucial save in stoppage time to deny Martínez a second goal, ensuring Milan’s victory.
This triumph marks Milan’s eighth Supercoppa Italiana title, equaling Inter’s record in the competition. For Sérgio Conceição, the victory is a dream start to his Milan career, winning a trophy in just his second match in charge of the Rossoneri.
