Serbia got a late victory in Lisbon over Portugal with the winning goal coming from Mitrovic at the 90th minute of the game which takes Serbia straight into next year’s World Cup in Qatar. The Fulham striker came in as a sub to score the winner which gives Serbia their first ever victory over Portugal.

Lille man Renato Sanches gave Portugal the perfect start by scoring in the 2nd minute of the game to put the home side ahead. However, Serbia got back into the game by equalizing through Ajax star-man Dusan Tadic in the 33rd minute after and error from Roma goalkeeper brought the score level. The first half ended in a draw but the away side were looking more dangerous.

Serbia came out in the second half just the way they ended the first and kept on creating problems for the Portuguese defense. The away side had more possession and had 9 shots (7) of target (2) on target and those two were the most crucial. Portugal’s only shot on target was the only goal they scored showing how terrible Fernando Santos men were on the night.

Portugal will now have to wait till March next year to find out who their opponents will be. They will join 9 other teams that are runners-up in their groups and 2 of the top ranked teams in the UEFA Nations League making it 12 teams. Three out of the twelve teams that comes out tops will qualify for the World Cup.
