Monaco ended their five-game winless streak against PSG on Saturday night courtesy of Takumi Minamino’s second half goal.
The reigning champions came into the tie high on confidence after the 5-3 over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Tuesday night in Paris.
Monaco, on the other hand , survived a major scare in the competition as they forced Pafos to a 2-2 draw.
The first half between the two French sides saw end-to-end action from both teams with the goalkeepers bay in between the sticks.
Mohammed Salisu thought he had given Monaco the lead five minutes before the first half break but was ruled for office.
Russian forward Aleksandr Golovin placed a brilliant pass towards Minamino in the box and the Japanese made no mistake as he buried the ball into the bottom corner to give Monaco the lead after the hour mark.
PSG’s night went from bad to worse as Thilo Kehrer was sent off for an unsporting-like foul. The match ended 1-0 but PSG are on top of the Ligue 1with 30 points.
Meanwhile, Marseille missed the chance to usurp PSG on top of the table as Toulouse snatched a late equalizer.
Despite coming from a goal down to lead 2-1, Roberto de Zerbi’s men fell to a late goal as the tie finished 2-2.
In the other fixture of the day, Moses Simon’s Paris FC and Auxerre settled for a 1-1 draw in Paris.
