Arsenal’s dream of winning four major trophies this season has gone down the drain after Manchester City outclassed the Gunners in the Carabao Cup final.
Young English left-back, Nico O’Reilly scored twice in the second half to give City a comfortable and well-deserved win at Wembley on Sunday evening.
After a seemingly uneventful first half that saw Kai Havertz miss a glorious chance to put Arsenal ahead, Manchester City turned up the heat in the second half.
While the Gunners soaked in pressure, Manchester City pinned them in their half with waves of attack from Ryan Cherki and Jeremy Doku from the flanks.
Kepa Arrizabalaga failed to hold on to a cross over his goal area as he spilled the ball towards the path of O’Reilly who latched on to it to give City the lead.
O’Reilly doubled the lead moments later with a header from Matheus Nunes cross to the far post.
Arteta’s introduction of Noni Madueke and Riccardo Calafiori added a bit of impetus to Arsenal’s attack late on but City held on to seal the victory with a clean sheet.
Manchester City have now five Carabao Cups in the Pep Guardiola era as dethrone Newcastle United as new champions.
