In a Premier League match on Saturday at the London Stadium, Nicolas Jackson scored twice to lead Chelsea to a convincing 3-0 victory over West Ham.
Chelsea enjoyed their third victory in five games under new boss Enzo Maresca thanks to goals from Cole Palmer and Jackson.
Even though Christopher Nkunku scored the game-winning goal against Bournemouth the weekend before, Jackson was still considered Chelsea’s first-choice striker by Maresca.
Despite appeals for Nkunku to start following his impressive performance against Bournemouth, the Senegal striker—who recently signed a contract extension with Chelsea until 2033—was given the nod over the French forward.
Jackson had 17 goals last season, but he also squandered a number of excellent opportunities.
But he has already scored four goals in six games in all competitions this season, demonstrating his excellent play.
In their five top-flight games this season, Chelsea has only lost once, against champions Manchester City.
Following two seasons in which Chelsea finished sixth and twelve, there are indications that Maresca might lead Chelsea’s expensive but unsatisfactory team to the top four.
Jackson will have a key role to play in Chelsea’s Champions League aspirations this season.
