Here are 5 things we learned from the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s 3-0 win against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo:

Ademola Lookman: Nigeria’s Main Man

Nigeria: Ademola Lookman in action for Super Eagles

Ademola Lookman is becoming Nigeria’s go-to guy, and his performances for club and country in 2024 have been incredible. He broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal, a fitting strike to celebrate his recent nomination for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. The Atalanta man was the attacking spark, cutting in from the left to devastating effect, and scoring two fine goals. This has been an excellent year for the 26-year-old and there is surely more to come.

3-4-3: The Best Formation for Super Eagles

The 3-4-3 formation works best for the Super Eagles, as it helps get everyone in their right positions and maximizes their talents. Samuel Chukueze was a constant menace on the right wing, focusing solely on his offensive duties with Ola Aina covering the full-back spot. This formation allows the Super Eagles to dominate possession and create overloads in wide areas, leading to a dominant 3-0 win.

Eguavoen did and said all the right things, nailing the tactics and making a strong case for himself to be considered for the permanent role. He led the Super Eagles to a well-deserved 3-0 win, proving his capabilities as a coach. Eguavoen’s objective is clear: to pick up six points from both matches, including the tricky test in Kigali against Rwanda, and he has started on the right note.

Iwobi Struggles in Deep Midfield Role

Iwobi struggled in defensive midfield next to Ndidi, and his best role is closer to the box or out wide like he plays for Fulham. He has had some good games for the Super Eagles and no one can fault his commitment, but his best position is not in defensive midfield. He was hauled off on the hour mark after another underwhelming performance.

Nwabali Remains Number One

Stanley Nwabali once again proved why he is the undisputed first choice with another stellar performance between the sticks. There were discussions about who should start in goal, with Maduka Okoye’s standout performances for Udinese in Serie A, but Nwabali’s performance put those doubts to rest. He made two fine stops to ensure the Super Eagles’ clean sheet.
