The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a shock 1-2 loss to the Amavubi of Rwanda in their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The Super Eagles led by Augustine Eguavoen already secured a spot at the AFCON in Morocco next year before their last match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.
Rwanda on the other hand were desperate for a ticket to the AFCON after they suffered a 0-1 loss at home to the Mediterranean Knight of Libya in matchday 5.
The Super Eagles with first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, regulars Ola Aina and Ademola Lookman were unable to break the Rwandans as the first half ended goalless.
In the 59th minute of the second half, substitute Samuel Chukwueze converted a ball from Frank Onyeka to put Nigeria ahead at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Rwanda responded and found an equalizer in the 72nd minute when Jojea Kwizera found Ange Mutsinzi.
Just two minutes later, Rwanda were in front, Innocent Nshuti was in the right place to fire past Maduka Okoye.
The Super Eagles brought on Victor Osimhen but were unable to find an equalizer as Rwanda held on to take all three points.
