Nigeria's Flamingos held by Mexico in friendly ahead of 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

The Flamingos, Nigeria’s under-17 women’s national football team, have returned to action ahead of the upcoming 2024 FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup.

In a friendly encounter played early on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in the Dominican Republic, the Flamingos and their Mexican opponents played out a 1-1 draw.

The team coached by Bankole Olowookere, took advantage of the friendly encounter as practice for the FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Nigeria 1-1 Mexico

Faridat Abdulkareem’s strike gave the Flamingos the lead in the 33rd minute.

The Flamingos of Nigeria play a 1-1 draw with Mexico in friendly ahead of 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Dominican Republic.

Just before the half, Mexico managed to tie the score with an impressive counterattack.

Both teams settled for a draw in the second half without any goals being scored.

Nigeria are in Group A of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with the hosts, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.

They will begin their campaign against New Zealand on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Flamingos placed third at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, and they plan to improve on that position in this tournament.
