Paul Onuachu provided an assist in Southampton’s home loss to high-flying Bournemouth at the St. Marys Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Super Eagles striker played the entirety of the match as Southampton continued to their battle for survival in the league.

Bournemouth fueled their Champions League football chase next season with an impressive 3-1 win.

Andoni Iraola’s men have been on a run of victories before the 2-0 home loss to Liverpool two weeks ago.

However, the Cherries returned to winning as they outclassed the Saints in front of their home fans.

Dango Ouattara gave the visitors the lead after 14 minutes of action.

Moments later, Ryan Christie and Dutch forward Justin Kluivert linked up with a pass and the former buried the ball into the bottom left corner to double the lead.

The Cherries put the Saints under siege and Dango Ouattara almost scored the third in the 42nd minute but Aaron Ramsdale pulled off a brilliant save to deny him.

Bournemouth continued to press for more goals in the second half and once again Ramsdale reacted quickly to stop Ryan Christie’s header from landing inside the net.

Southampton pulled one back courtesy of Ghanian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana who received a pass from Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu.

Sulemana jinks inside his man in the box before releasing a powerful shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

Marcus Tarvenier killed Southampton’s hope of staging a comeback as he powered a low drive into the bottom left corner to restore Bournemouth’s two-goal advantage.

The Cherries left the Saint Mary’s Stadium with maximum points as they keep the dream of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season alive.

Bournemouth are a point off the fourth spot as they occupy the fifth position with 43 points after 25 matches.
