Bournemouth continued to press for more goals in the second half and once again Ramsdale reacted quickly to stop Ryan Christie’s header from landing inside the net.

Southampton pulled one back courtesy of Ghanian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana who received a pass from Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu.

Sulemana jinks inside his man in the box before releasing a powerful shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

Marcus Tarvenier killed Southampton’s hope of staging a comeback as he powered a low drive into the bottom left corner to restore Bournemouth’s two-goal advantage.

The Cherries left the Saint Mary’s Stadium with maximum points as they keep the dream of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season alive.

Bournemouth are a point off the fourth spot as they occupy the fifth position with 43 points after 25 matches.
