Nigerian football star, Asisat Oshoala donned a white hand band during Nigeria’s latest clash against Tunisia, paying homage to the late Super Eagles and Bendel Insurance goalkeeping icon, Peter Rufai.
Photos circulating on social media confirm the tribute. Oshoala, who scored the Super Falcons’ first goal in the match, was seen wearing the band on her wrist immediately after scoring—an expression of solidarity and respect toward the football legend who passed away earlier this week at the age of 61.
Peter Rufai—nicknamed “Dodo Mayana”—was widely revered for his performances in goal for both club and country. He was AFCON champion in 1994 and was part of the squad that reached the round of 16 at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
His untimely death two days ago, after a prolonged illness, has left Nigeria’s football community in mourning.
