Osimhen scored as Nigeria beat Benin Republic 3-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday. His goal took him to 22 strikes for the Super Eagles, surpassing Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
The Galatasaray striker, on loan from Napoli, is now behind only Rashidi Yekini and Segun Odegbami in Nigeria’s all-time scorers list.
The 25-year-old scored a beautiful half-volley after getting on the end of a fine cross from Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. Osimhen, who was the centre of transfer deadline day controversy, was making his first competitive appearance of the season and looked right at home.
