Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray) returns to the 10-man shortlist for African Player of the Year after missing out in last year’s edition, which Ademola Lookman won.

Osimhen, who won a domestic double with his club, recently helped the Super Eagles qualify for the World Cup playoffs after his standout hat-trick performance on the last day of qualifiers.
In the Goalkeeper of the Year award, Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United), who was also nominated last year, will battle Cameroon’s André Onana and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.

Both Osimhen and Nwabali starred in the Super Eagles team that fought to claim a Playoff spot in the race for the FIFA World Cup 2026 earlier this month.
Nigeria U20 skipper Daniel Bameyi has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award following his decent outing at the last AFCON and the recently concluded U-20 World Cup in Chile.
The final award decisions, made by a panel of experts including CAF legends and selected media, will honour performances from January 6 to October 15, 2025. The Awards Gala is expected to take place in Morocco later this year.
