- Napoli striker Victor Osimhen win the 2022 award for the best foreign athlete of the year in Italy.
The 24-year-old outstanding performance was recognised by the foreign press in Italy, naming him as the best foreign athlete in the country for the year 2022. The award was presented to him by the president of his club Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The award follows a series of awards which Osimhen has received lately including the Seria A’s prize for player of the month in January 2023 and the ‘emerging player of the year’ at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards. He was also nominated for the player of the month of February and stands a chance to win it for the second month running.
Osimhen has been a force to reckon with in front of goal for Napoli since the start of last year, and he finished the 2021/2022 season with 18 goals and five assist in 32 games, seven of which were scored in the second half of the season.
In the current season, Osimhen has continued to impress, and has been in red hot form where he scored in 8 consecutive games before the loss against Lazio at home which he didn’t get to score. So far Victor has scored 19 goals in 21 league games and 2 goals in four Champions League matches despite being injured for a month.
His incredible form has also helped place Napoli at the apex of the Serie A league table as they currently top the log with 15 points with 13 matches left to play for the season.
With his blistering form, that has made him a hot cake in the transfer market with so many top teams in Europe wanting his signature. Up next for Napoli are Atalanta who will be visiting the Diego Armando, Osimhen will want to get back to his scoring from while Napoli will want to get back to winning ways.
