Paul Pogba completes move to Monaco after doping ban comeback

AS Monaco have confirmed the signing of French midfielder, Paul Pogba on a two-year deal, marking a major step in the 31-year-old’s bid to revive his career after serving a doping suspension.

The former Manchester United and Juventus star joins the Principality club as a free agent, with his contract running until June 2027.

Pogba’s move to Monaco comes less than a year after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his four-year doping ban to 18 months. He was originally sanctioned in February 2024 after testing positive for DHEA, a banned substance that boosts testosterone levels.

Following the CAS ruling in October 2024, Pogba became eligible to return to training in January and to competitive football from March 2025. Juventus mutually terminated his contract in November 2024, clearing the way for the transfer.

This signing marks Pogba’s first senior club experience in Ligue 1, despite his roots in the French system as a youth player at Le Havre.

Pogba is expected to play a key role in a midfield that already includes Youssouf Fofana and recent signing Eric Dier. The 2018 World Cup winner has not played competitive football since August 2023.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Pogba will be hoping a successful stint at Monaco can put him back in contention for the French national team.

Monaco’s 2025–26 campaign begins in August, and Pogba could make his official debut when the club faces Le Havre, in what would be a fitting nod to his early footballing roots.
