Plateau United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over El Kanemi Warriors at the New Jos Stadium, with Gideon Monday’s 32nd-minute strike proving decisive.
The home side controlled much of the first half and took their chance when Monday finished neatly after sustained pressure. El Kanemi improved after the break and pressed for an equaliser, but Plateau United’s defence stood firm to seal all three points.
The win lifts the Jos side’s confidence after recent mixed results, while El Kanemi were left to rue their lack of cutting edge in the final third.
In Benin City, Bendel Insurance and Bayelsa United played out a 1-1 draw in a tense but balanced contest. Bendel took the lead early in the second half through K. O. Solomon in the 45th minute, only for Bayelsa to hit back swiftly as Mustapha Jawad levelled the score nine minutes later.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with chances falling at either end, but neither side could find the decisive touch. The result ensures both clubs share the points, reflecting the even nature of the contest.
