Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has appealed to Nigerian football fans to give the team adequate support ahead of the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda on Saturday.
Troost-Ekong says the fans need to support the team by encouraging them and filling up the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, venue of the match.
The central defender appealed on Wednesday as the team prepared for their second training session ahead of the match:
I want to thank them for their support… I want to ask them to continue to encourage us, be there in the stadium on Saturday… We know the gravity of this game, and we’re going to be focused on preparation.
Troost-Ekong also spoke on the preparation of the team after the first training session on Tuesday. He revealed that the players are focused as he expects a full house for Wednesday’s session.
I think the boys are very focused… we’re looking forward to having a full house for training tonight… We are looking forward to the game on Saturday.
When asked about Brentford FC’s and former Flying Eagles’ 20-year-old defender, Benjamin Fredrick, the Super Eagles captain heaped praises on him as he revealed that he is hardworking and humble:
Benjamin is a humble, hardworking, very talented defender… I think we were all really impressed with what he showed us in the Unity Cup… It’s an amazing story, and I’m looking forward to seeing him continue his development and become important for the team.
Benjamin Frederick made his debut for the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup in June, where he impressed Eric Chelle and the coaching staff. The former Flying Eagle plays a central defender and can also play right full-back.
