Arsenal came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1 at the Emirates in the first match of the weekend on the resumption of league football. James Justin put Leeds ahead in the 55th minute, Riccardo Calafiori equalised seven minutes later, and substitute Bruno Guimarães scored the winner just seven minutes after coming on. The win lifted Arsenal to 15 points, level with Manchester City, after their 3-0 defeat at Brighton before the break.
Chelsea hammered Bournemouth 5-1 and answered their 3-0 loss at Brentford in emphatic style. Jordan Henderson and Morgan Rogers scored inside the opening three minutes, João Pedro added two, and Henderson completed his double with a free kick. Bournemouth are still without a win.
Brighton went to Sunderland and won 2-0 despite having just 38 percent of the ball. Maxim De Cuyper opened the scoring, Pascal Struijk’s red card left Sunderland with ten men, and Jaouen Hadjam sealed the win in stoppage time. Bart Verbruggen saved all three of Sunderland’s shots on target, and Brighton sit third on 13 points.
Manchester United and Tottenham drew 1-1 at Old Trafford in a match that frustrated both sides. Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead in the 73rd minute, and Spurs midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur saw red five minutes later. Dominic Solanke headed home in the second minute of stoppage time to rescue a point. Spurs are still winless after six games, while United have six points from six.
Ipswich beat Fulham 2-1 with two late goals. Ryan Sessegnon gave Fulham the lead in the 55th minute, Abdoul Ouattara equalised in the 88th, and Dara O’Shea scored the winner in added time from Jack Clarke’s assist. Fulham now sit bottom on two points.
Aston Villa and Brentford drew 2-2 at Villa Park. Yegor Yarmolyuk gave Brentford an early lead, and Nicolas Jackson equalised. John McGinn put Villa ahead, but Kristoffer Ajer levelled two minutes later. Villa had 20 shots, seven on target, yet Brentford extended their unbeaten start to six games.
Liverpool host Manchester City on Sunday in the weekend’s headline fixture.
