Glasgow Rangers’ rode on lucky on as they held Athletic Bilbao to a goalless draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Ibrox.
The home side suffered an early set back as Robin Propper received a straight red card for a rash tackle on an opposition player.
Rangers struggled to create chances on the night as they failed to register a shot on target for the entire duration of the match.
The visitors, with a man advantage dominated play but struggled to breakdown the Scottish side who played behind the ball for most part of the match.
Alex Berenguer fired home a rebound in the 77th minute to break the deadlock but his goal and Athletic Bilbao’s celebration didn’t last.
After a Var review, the referee announced a penalty instead to the delight of the Bilbao players but Berenguer missed as Liam Kelly made a save.
