Reactions as Super Falcons complete stunning comeback to win 10th WAFCON title

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have once again etched their name in history, claiming a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after a dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in Rabat.

The final, played under the dazzling lights of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, was a rollercoaster of emotions as Nigeria overturned a two-goal deficit to secure their crown in emphatic fashion.

It was a night that reaffirmed Nigeria’s status as queens of African football. Morocco, cheered on by a packed home crowd, took a shocking 2–0 lead in the first half and looked set to clinch their maiden WAFCON title. But the Super Falcons had other plans.

Led by the brilliance of Esther Okoronkwo and Jennifer Echegini, the team showed resilience and championship mentality, scoring three unanswered goals to complete a stunning remontada.

The scenes that followed were electric. Across social media, Nigerians erupted in joy, pride, and relief. One user wrote, “I love Nigeria… I love Super Falcons. We are the champions.”

Another fan, reacting to the comeback, tweeted: “Dem shine laser for her eye for the first half, but she come back second half, fold sleeve, turn the final upside down”, referring to when Moroccan fans pointed lasers in the face of Okoronkwo as she was about to take a set piece.

The phrase “Mission X” also trended, a reference to the team’s long-standing goal of reaching 10 WAFCON titles. What once seemed like a dream after semi-final heartbreak in 2022 had finally become reality, and Nigerians were here for it.

Super Eagles players were not left out of the celebrations as Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon were quick to congratulate the Falcons on their record breaking feat.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie clinched the player and goalkeeper of the tournament respectively, a further testament to the Galcons’ dominance in Morocco.
