Rivers, Rangers bag win towards title chase as Shooting Stars survive Nasarawa scare in Ibadan

Rivers United and Enugu Rangers both recorded important wins towards their chase for the Nigeria Premier Football League title.

With two games left to the end of the season, Finidi George’s Rivers United and Fidelis Ikechukwu’s Rangers are in contention to win the title.

Rivers United made light work of Abia Warriors with a convincing 3-0 win in Port Harcourt on Sunday evening.

Wasiu Falolu, Cameroonian defender, Sylvester Bell and Bello Babajide found the back of the net in the second half to secure the win for Rivers United.

Meanwhile, Enugu Rangers secured a 2-0 win over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa to take a point lead over Rivers United.

Captain of the Flying Antelopes, Chidiebere Nwobodo and Godwin Obaje scored in each half respectively to give Enugu Rangers maximum points on the road.

Enugu Rangers have 62 points while Rivers United are a point behind heading into the final two games of the season.

Meanwhile, Shooting Stars kept their hope of qualifying for a continental spot alive with a nervy 3-2 win over Nasarawa United in Ibadan.

Despite going two goals up, the Oluyole Warriors capitulated in the second half as the visitors drew level.

Qamar Adegoke missed the chance to put Shooting Stars back into the lead as he missed a penalty in the 66th minute.

However, the 21-year-old forward redeemed himself moments later as he scored the winner to secure a 3-2 win.

In other results, Remo Stars are back in the relegation dog fight as the defending champions suffered a 2-1 loss at Enyimba.

Kun Khalifat boosted their survival hopes with. 2-1 win over Kano Pillars while Bayelsa United drops to the bottom of the log with the home loss to Rangers.
