Newly appointed Manchester United manager, Rúben Amorim has joked that fans will think he is the ‘next Alex Ferguson’ if he defeats Manchester City on Tuesday.
The Portuguese was speaking to reporters as Sporting Lisbon prepare to host Man City in their UCL clash on Tuesday. This will be Amorim’s last game as Sporting’s manager before he takes over the reins at Manchester United.
He remarked, “If the result is negative, expectations about me will drop. But if we win, they will think the new Sir Alex Ferguson has arrived and that will be difficult to live up to!”
Sporting Lisbon has witnessed an impressive run of form under Amorim this season as they sit atop the Portuguese Liga table, with 30 points out of a possible 30. They will be looking to mantain this winning streak against a tough Man City side tomorrow night.
Manchester United fans, particularly, will be keen to see how their incoming head coach will perform against their neighbouring rivals and will hope he takes all three points after 90 minutes.
