Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone provided an update on Ademola Lookman’s injury and confirmed that the forward has not yet received medical clearance for the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal.

Lookman sustained the injury during Atlético Madrid’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad, where he was forced off in the second half.

The Nigerian international has since missed La Liga matches against Elche CF and Athletic Bilbao, casting doubt over his availability for the crucial clash against Arsenal.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Simeone praised Lookman’s impact on the team while admitting that Atlético Madrid will make a late decision on his fitness.

“Well, the truth is that his arrival has had a very positive impact on the team,” he said via Futbol Fantasy.

“He really does have some differentiating factors offensively.“He’s working much better on his defence. We’ll see if he recovers well tomorrow, because he was still feeling some discomfort today.

“So we’ll see if he can help us tomorrow or not.”Lookman has established himself as a key figure for Atlético Madrid since joining from Atalanta in the winter transfer window.

“The former African Footballer of the Year has scored two goals and provided two assists in six UEFA Champions League appearances, including a crucial strike in the second leg of the quarter-final against FC Barcelona.

Lookman’s decisive goal helped Atlético Madrid book their place in the semi-finals, successfully fending off Barcelona’s spirited comeback after the 2-0 deficit at Camp Nou.
