Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has arrived at the Super Eagles camp ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda later this week.

The South Africa-based goalie arrived on Tuesday but could not take part in the team’s first training session at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Stanley Nwabali’s arrival is a relief following speculations on his availability for the qualifiers after he sustained an injury while playing for Chippa United last week.

Nwabali has been reliable in between the sticks for the Super Eagles after his impressive outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished second.

The 29-year-old is expected to be in goal when Nigeria take on the Wasps of Rwanda on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo and South Africa in Bloemfontein three days later.

Nigeria enters this international window under immense pressure, as they sit fourth in Group C with seven points after six matches.

South Africa are top of the group with 13 points, while Rwanda and Benin are third and fourth with eight points each, while Lesotho and Zimbabwe follow with six and four points respectively.

The Super Eagles will look to win both matches in a bid to revive their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, and Benjamin Fredericks took part in the first training session, as well as team captain William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, Bruno Onyemaechi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Frank Onyeka.

Other players expected to arrive at camp include Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Tolu Arokodare, Raphael Onyedika, Chrisantus Uche, and Cyriel Dessers.
