Super Eagles must qualify – Oliseh delivers mandate for 2026 World Cup

Former Super Eagles captain and head coach Sunday Oliseh has issued a stern warning to Nigeria regarding qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Austin Eguavoen’s men are yet to record a win after four games and sit second from bottom in Group C with just three points. The pressure is mounting, and Oliseh is concerned.

“Africa could be represented by as many as 10 countries at the next World Cup, we’re at the risk of not being one of these countries, and it will be a disaster if Nigeria do not qualify,” Oliseh told Supersport TV.

Having experienced the disappointment firsthand, Oliseh knows the gravity of the situation.

“I was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for six weeks working on the FIFA study group, and it was painful that Nigeria were not there.”

Nigeria’s next qualifying match against Rwanda in March 2025 takes on added significance. The Super Eagles must reverse their fortunes to avoid missing consecutive World Cups.

Oliseh’s words serve as a wake-up call for the team and Nigerian football authorities.

With time running out, the Super Eagles must regroup and refocus to secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup.
