Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika had an impressive target as Club Brugge started their Champions League campaign with a commanding win over Monaco.
Onyedika played over 80 minutes on Thursday night and scored his first goal of the season in the 4-1 win over the vistsors.
Raphael Onyedika was in the right place as he received a pass from Carlos Forbs in the box before placing it into the middle of goal to double Beugge’s lead.
French forward Magnes Akliouche missed the chance to put Monaco ahead early in the tie as failed to convert a 10th minute penalty.
Monaco’s night went from bad to worse as Belgian midfielder Hans Vanaken fired a one-time shot into the back of the net to give Club Brugge a 3-0 lead.
Monaco had a brief spells of dominance in the second half as they registered four shots on target but couldn’t breach Club Brugge’s defense.
Instead, Mamadou Diakhon scored to increase Club Brugge’s lead with a simple finish after he was left unmarked in the box.
Monaco eventually scored a consolation late in the game as Barcelona loaner, Ansu Fati received a cut-back pass from Minamino before burying the ball into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen came back from behind twice to pick a point at Copenhagen.
Pantelis Hatzediakos’s own goal on added time of the 90 helped Bayer Leverkusen avoid defeat as the tie ended 2-2 at the Parken Arena.
