The Super Eagles of Nigeria, otherwise known as CHAN Eagles, are set to receive a cash reward despite exiting the ongoing African Nations Championship in the group stage.
Sudan ended the CHAN Eagles’ dream of progressing to the next round of the competition after a comprehensive 4-0 win in the second group stage match.
Despite winning their last group stage match against Congo, the Super Eagles couldn’t progress to the quarter-finals, having lost to defending champions Senegal in their opening fixture.
However, the CHAN Eagles won’t return to Nigeria without compensation, as they are set to receive $300,000 for finishing third in the group stage of the competition.
The 2018 finalist amassed just three points after three games in the first round.
Goals from Nigeria Premier Football League top scorer, Anas Yusuf, and Sikiru Alimi scored in the second half as the Super Eagles beat Congo 2-0 on Tuesday night at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
