Tottenham 3-4 Chelsea: 3 things learnt as Blues close gap on Liverpool in title race

Chelsea completed a remarkable comeback to close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table to four points.

How it happened

Spurs raced into an early lead thanks to Dominic Solanke’s fine finish, and after a comical error by Marc Cucurella, Dejan Kulusevski finished with aplomb to put the home side 2-0 up.

Chelsea finally grew into the game and goals from Jadon Sancho, Enzo Fernandez and a brace from star man Cole Palmer gave Enzo Maresca’s men all three points.

Spurs captain Son Heung-Min scored a late consolation to make the scoreline respectable.

Here are three things we learnt from the game

Time is up for Ange

Tottenham are 11th in the standings after 15 games, and it is clear to all that they have regressed as a team.

There is no denying that Ange Postecoglou’s second season has been an embarrassment and this defeat highlights how much trouble they are in.

It is time for Daniel Levy to pull the plug.

Palmer remains Chelsea’s best player

Cole Palmer continues to grow in stature at Chelsea, and it is safe to say he is comfortably the Blues’ best player.

He was everywhere in an action-packed London derby and took both penalties with supreme confidence, including the second, a delightful panenka.

The 22-year-old now has 17 G+A in 15 Premier League games and has been a major factor in the Blues’ rise up the table.

Chelsea are genuine contenders

It is high time we all started taking Chelsea seriously as title contenders.

They are now just 4 points behind leaders Liverpool, albeit having played a game more but it is obvious that Maresca’s men are the real deal.

They have lost just twice this season, against Manchester City and Liverpool, and are the highest-scoring team in the league with 35 goals.

Are the Blues finally back? time will tell.
