Nigerian defender, William Troost-Ekong produced a commanding display as Al Kholood edged Al Najma 1–0 after extra time to reach the quarterfinals of the 2025–26 King’s Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Both sides struggled to create clear chances in a tense first half, with Al Najma seeing more of the ball but unable to break down a disciplined Al Kholood backline. .
The pattern continued in the second half as neither team found a way through. Al Kholood stayed compact and patient, relying on Troost-Ekong’s organization to withstand pressure.

With the match goalless at full time, extra time was needed to separate the two sides. The breakthrough arrived in the 99th minute when Ramiro Enrique fired home what proved to be the winner.
The victory sends Al Kholood into the King’s Cup quarterfinals for the first time in their history — a major achievement for the Saudi First Division side.
