Christantus Uche was sent off as Getafe lost 1-0 to Espanyol in LaLiga’s Friday night action.
The first half was a bit dull, with no real attacking spark until the 34th minute when Ramon Terrats’ shot was tipped over by Joan García. Just before halftime, Marash Kumbulla pounced on a loose corner, firing home to give Espanyol the lead.

Getafe nearly equalized early in the second half, but Mauro Arambarri’s header was saved by García. Things got tougher for Getafe when Christantus Uche was sent off after a red card on the hour mark. Espanyol almost extended their lead when Exposito’s free-kick was saved by David Soria.
In the end, Espanyol held on for a vital win, boosting their survival hopes with a nine-point cushion above the drop zone. Getafe, just a point ahead in 11th, are still in the mix.
Elsewhere, Super Eagles star Moses Simon was on the losing end as Nantes lost 2-1 to Rennes to push them right back into the Ligue 1 relegation dogfight. Nantes are now 13th with 30 points, just 3 points above the drop zone.
