After thrashing Benin Republic, Victor Osimhen backs Ademola Lookman for 2024 CAF Player of the Year award

Victor Osimhen, a forward for the Nigerian Super Eagles, has endorsed his teammate Ademola Lookman in the 2024 CAF Player of the Year competition.

Osimhen backs Lookman for CAF award

After his incredible 2023–2024 season with Napoli, Osimhen won the award and now he thinks the Atalanta forward has the talent and performances to succeed him.

According to Nigerian football fans, Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman will win the 2024 Africa Player of the Year award.

Lookman had a fantastic 2023–2024 season and was essential to the Atalanta and Nigeria.

His efforts enabled the Super Eagles to go to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final game, where hosts Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria.

In addition, he was the highlight of Atalanta’s Europa League victory, scoring a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the to secure a 3-0 victory and take home the title.

Osimhen, who led Napoli to their first Serie A title in over 30 years, is confident that Lookman’s achievements have put him in pole position to succeed him as Africa’s best player.

Osimhen, who recently joined Galatasaray, shared his thoughts on Lookman’s prospects of winning the prize with the Counter Attack Podcast.

Lookman strengthened his candidacy with two goals in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin in the 2025 AFCON qualifying round, capping an outstanding campaign that may earn him the title of 2024 CAF Player of the Year.
