Aston Villa triumphed over Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup fourth round at Villa Park on Sunday, marking their first advancement to the fifth round in a decade.
The match began with a stunning start for Villa, as Jacob Ramsey found the net within the first minute. Capitalizing on a defensive lapse, Morgan Rogers advanced unchallenged and set up Ramsey, whose shot slipped through the hands of Spurs’ goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Villa maintained their momentum into the second half. In the 64th minute, Leon Bailey’s cross was poorly cleared by Pedro Porro, allowing Rogers to score from close range, doubling Villa’s lead.
Tottenham managed to pull one back in stoppage time. Dejan Kulusevski delivered a precise cross that Mathys Tel skillfully redirected past Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. Despite this late effort, Villa held firm to secure the win.
This defeat marks Tottenham’s second cup exit in four days, following their Carabao Cup semi-final loss to Liverpool. The consecutive eliminations have intensified scrutiny on manager Ange Postecoglou’s position.
Aston Villa’s victory was further highlighted by the debuts of new signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, who both made their first appearances for the club during the match.
