We are not sacking him — Man Utd co-owner Jim Ratcliffe backs Amorim

Manchester United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has offered a clear timeline for manager Ruben Amorim to prove his worth at Old Trafford, despite the team’s current struggles.

Ratcliffe appointed the 40-year-old Amorim in November 2024 to replace Erik ten Hag. However, the Portuguese manager has struggled to lift the Red Devils back to their “glory days.”

As United currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal, Amorim’s future has come under scrutiny in recent weeks.

Speaking on The Business podcast, Ratcliffe defended the manager and stressed that he needs time, pushing back on media pressure for instant results:

“He has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.”

Ratcliffe also criticized the media’s expectation of immediate success, calling it unrealistic:

“The press, sometimes I don’t understand. They want overnight success. They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow.”

The comments from the owner, who holds 25% of the club, provide a measure of stability for Amorim amid the team’s ongoing struggles.
