Why Arsenal must fire Arteta at the end of the season – Mikel Obi

Chelsea legend, Mikel Obi, has advised Arsenal to fire Mikel Arteta at the end of the season if the club is interested in winning major silverware next season.

Mikel Obi says Arsenal needs a new voice in the dressing room, and Mikel Arteta is not the man to lead the Gunners to glory.

The former Chelsea midfielder added that Arteta always comes second, but the end goal is winning trophies.

Mike Obi made these remarks as a guest analyst on Bein Sports Premier League coverage over the weekend alongside former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke.

“It’s about winning trophies, yes, he got them there (second place), but he did not get them over the line (winning the Premier League). It is the same thing, he always comes second. It is always about next season for Arsenal, and they are already talking about next season…”

He added that given the time, seven years, and amount –  £700 million, Mikel Arteta has spent over the last six years of his tenure, one FA Cup is not enough to keep his job at the end of the season as Arsenal ends the season trophyless again.

“He has no excuses, for someone who has been for that long and has spent so much money, and just winning one FA Cup trophy, that is not good enough.”

Arsenal will finish in second place for the third consecutive season after missing out on the Premier league title.
