Chelsea legendary midfielder Obi John Mikel says the fans wanted the club to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen instead of Liam Delap.
Mikel says the fans wanted a proven goal scorer, someone better than the club already parades going into the new football season.
The former Chelsea midfielder made this remark in a football show on DAZN before Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup opener against Los Angeles Football Club.
Yeah, we needed somebody to come in and score those goals and finish those chances, but obviously, he wasn’t the guy the fans wanted. Obviously, we know who the fans wanted. The fans wanted Victor Osimhen to come to the club, but he didn’t. So, the fans decided to for Liam Delap. He is young, I think he is going to improve and he is going to get better. Hopefully, he is going to bang in the goals.

Victor Osimhen turned down the move to join Chelsea last summer after the club failed to reach an agreement with the player and Napoli.
Osimhen is back in the news after the expiration of his loan spell at Galatasaray, where he led the club to a domestic double with 37 goals, eight assists in 41 matches.
The Super Eagles striker rejected Al Hilal’s €40 million a year offer after agreeing with Napoli to pay his €75 million release clause.
Al Hilal are reportedly preparing to offer the 27-year-old striker a new proposal as they hope to convince him to join the club ahead of the new football season.
