Inter Milan’s sports director, Giuseppe Marotta, has explained why the club withdrew from negotiations to sign Atalanta’s talented winger Ademola Lookman.
Despite reaching an agreement on a lucrative five-year contract with the Nigerian star, Inter’s €45 million bid was firmly rejected by Atalanta, who were determined not to sell their star player to Serie A rivals.
Lookman submitted a transfer request, accusing the club of broken promises, but Atalanta stood their ground.
Consequently, the Nerazzurri opted to abandon their pursuit last week, redirecting their focus to alternative transfer targets.
Lookman, who formally submitted a transfer request to Atalanta and faced a brief period of exclusion from the squad, now confronts an uncertain future with the Bergamo-based club.
Marotta acknowledged Atalanta’s stance, stating, “There was talk of Lookman, but we found a club that had every right not to put him on the market, and rightly so,” in an interview with TMW.
